Talkin Aboot
Des McLean is a great comedian. In fact, he is the great comedian that other great comedians and entertainers come to see when they are in town - Billy Connolly, Peter Kay, The Fratellis - they are huge fans! Infact it was Billy Connolly who said live on BBC - 'Des McLean - God, I love him!'
It doesn't get much better than that, does it?
Comedy
The sell out live shows all over the country. The fastest selling comedy cd in Scotland - ever! A smash hit DVD - recorded live at venues around Scotland during the total sell out 2008 Autum Tour followed immediately by another total sell out in Autumn 2009. Such was the clamour for tickets from disappointed fans who found the 'House Full' signs up at every gig, Des had to add an extra night at the fabulous o2 Academy in the heart of Glasgow. Over 500 tickets were snapped up in just 48 hours when the show was announced. The fastest selling comedy show ever at the o2 in Glasgow - it just goes on and on and on - like the laughter and the applause.
Actor
Away from the glare of the stand up comedy spotlight, Des has been making inroads to more serious acting roles. His natural flair for observational comedy won him one of the lead roles in 'Two Tales of Live and Loss' by David Kilby - produced and directed by BAFTA Award winner Paul Hineman. This played to much critical acclaim and packed audiences at The Tron Theatre and plans are now afoot to take this production on tour next year.
All this talent packed into one small hairy Weegie!
TV Presenter
October 2009 was Des's first real journey into the world of TV. Many guest spots on 'Talking Heads' type shows under his belt to support him, Des was invited to co-host the popular STV tea time daily show 'The Hour' for a whole week. From what we are hearing back here is Desy HQ, it won't be his last invite!
Radio DJ
As if that wasnt enough he's also an award winning DJ. (For crying out loud!) Des has his own weekly Radio Show on Clyde 1 and his daily appearances on 'Bowie at Breakfast' contributed to the winning of a prestigious Sony Radio Award Nomination for the team on the show three years running. In fact they beat Chris Moyles to the title of 'Most Entertaining Radio Show'. He was pleased!
So there you have it. We could mention his pioneering work in the fields of medical research and renewable energy resources and even let you know about the Nobel Prize nominations which he has turned down so many times - but Des has refused us permission to do so – mainly because we just made it all up and it is all pure pish. That is a measure of the humility of the man – the legend – that is Des McLean.
